Mass timber brings structure, sustainability and the student experience together.
Kalamazoo College’s new 64,800-square-foot, four-story mass timber residence hall expands campus housing with student rooms and shared spaces including lounges, a community kitchen, marketplace, study areas, laundry facilities and other amenities. The Type IV-C mass timber building uses cross-laminated timber (CLT), glulam and post-and-beam construction as part of a hybrid structural system. The project pairs mass timber with passive energy strategies and other low-carbon materials to advance Kalamazoo College’s sustainability and resiliency goals while creating a high-quality residential environment.
