The Lutheran Village at Miller’s Grant project in Ellicott City, Maryland expands and renovates spaces within the existing retirement community to support a main chapel, theater room and performing arts functions. The two-story project uses a hybrid structural approach combining plank construction, cast-in-place concrete and exposed glulam trusses. The timber structure plays both a structural and architectural role, creating the distinctive long-span roof forms visible throughout the chapel and performing arts spaces. Construction took place adjacent to a fully occupied senior living facility, making site logistics, separation from residents and careful field execution important considerations throughout construction. Quality Buildings' field team performed the timber work, with the project completed in March 2025.
